Don’t Let Your Job Define You

We are constantly exposed to and bombarded by influences of others, be it parents as children, peers and society as young adults and mainstream media and governments as adults. We reach a point where our thoughts aren't really of our making and based on which we make everyday decisions i.e., what university to go to, what company to work for, what house to buy, where to vacation etc. Big or small, important or trivial, decisions we make are based on someone else's thoughts which is petrifying to say the least.

If you’re anything like majority of adults world over, you’re employed at a company working 9-5 job which ultimately doesn’t bring any true value to society or the mankind. You were hired for the role based on your fit to fulfill your employer’s demands, orders and be obedient. As a matter of fact, the system we’re all subjected to from birth molds us into obedient servants who live and work on autopilot without much consideration for alternative ways. We simply are and follow in the footsteps of those followers who came before us.

We are constantly exposed to and bombarded by influences of others, be it parents as children, peers and society as young adults and mainstream media and governments as adults. We reach a point where our thoughts aren’t really of our making and based on which we make everyday decisions i.e., what university to go to, what company to work for, what house to buy, where to vacation etc. Big or small, important or trivial, decisions we make are based on someone else’s thoughts which is petrifying to say the least.

Eventually, we wound up in jobs we don’t really like all that much and feel unfulfilled by it – we do it merely for the paycheck we receive at the end or a beginning of each month, a pathetic way of existence, indeed. To make matters worse, your contribution to the company you work for brings no value to society at large or the mankind, it only helps your employer make more money and become wealthier in the process.

Through company culture, norms and business conduct you naturally become a part of it and ultimately let your job define you. The way you speak, dress, behave and conduct yourself in public, with peers, even friends and family is heavily influenced by the job you do and company you work for. While you may think there’s nothing terribly wrong with it the truth is that everything is wrong with it because that’s not who you truly are, you aren’t your job but something much more profound and special.

No matter what stage in life or corporate world you are it at the moment, you ought to think long and hard about aforementioned and if indeed, you aren’t who your currently are – feel unfulfilled, uninspired and without a worthy goal you wish to accomplish in the future – you’ve got to resolve to change your ways, starting immediately to work on getting to know yourself, your true calling and mission in life. Don’t let your job, society, mainstream media or the government define you or your purpose anymore, instead reinvent yourself.
